Apple is taking significant steps to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the European Union. The tech giant is expanding its app ecosystem, offering EU users more control over their devices.
Key changes include:
- Expanded default app options: Users will be able to set defaults for more app categories, including messaging, navigation, password managers, and more. This means they can choose apps like WhatsApp or Waze as their primary options instead of Apple’s default offerings.
- Deletable core apps: For the first time, EU users can delete core apps like the App Store, Messages, Camera, Photos, and Safari. This provides a level of customization previously unavailable.
- Enhanced browser selection: The process for choosing a default browser will be simplified, with clearer information and direct access from the choice window.
