AMD has officially announced the release of its latest gaming processor, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, set to launch on November 7th at a price of $479. This new CPU is the direct successor to the highly acclaimed Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which has been a favorite among gamers for its exceptional performance.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D boasts significant improvements over its predecessor. It features a base clock speed of 4.7GHz and a maximum boost clock of 5.2GHz, compared to the 4.2GHz base and 5.0GHz boost clocks of the 7800X3D. Additionally, the thermal design power (TDP) has been increased to 120W, up from 105W, which may enhance performance in productivity tasks where previous X3D chips lagged behind their non-X3D counterparts.
The processor is built on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture and utilizes second-generation 3D V-Cache technology. AMD claims that the 9800X3D delivers an 8% increase in average frames per second (FPS) over the 7800X3D, solidifying its position as a top choice for gamers.
AMD claims that the 9800X3D outperforms Intel’s latest Core Ultra 9 285K by up to 20% in gaming scenarios. Jack Huynh, AMD’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, stated that in games like Far Cry 6 and Cyberpunk 2077, the 9800X3D is more than 40% faster.
A notable feature of the 9800X3D is that it is the first X3D processor to be fully unlocked, allowing enthusiasts … extract additional performance from their systems.
