Adobe has announced that its popular video editing platform, Premiere Pro, is set to receive new generative AI video tools as part of the company’s Firefly family. These new tools will allow users to generate video, add or remove objects using text prompts, and extend the length of video clips, similar to Photoshop’s Generative Fill feature.
Adobe has not yet announced a release date for these new video generation tools, only stating that they will be rolled out sometime this year. The company’s plans to integrate Premiere Pro with AI models from other providers, such as Runway, Pika Labs, and OpenAI’s Sora, are still in the early stages of exploration and are not guaranteed.
The proposed third-party AI integrations are intended to provide Premiere Pro users with more choices, allowing them to use models like Pika to extend shots or Sora or Runway AI when generating B-rolls for their projects. Adobe has also stated that its Content Credentials labels can be applied to these generated clips to identify which AI models have been used to generate them.
While Adobe’s own Firefly models are already extensively used by creative professionals, integrating third-party AI models seems like a logical step for the company. This would not only benefit Adobe’s retention but also make these tools more accessible to creative professionals who may not want to switch to a separate dedicated app.
Notably, OpenAI’s Sora has demonstrated impressive generational capabilities that surpass other offerings, making it a potential game-changer in the world of video editing. However, it remains to be seen how Adobe’s own Firefly video model will stack up against Sora and other third-party AI models.
