When Acer unveiled its latest batch of laptops at IFA 2024, one model stood out in a big way—Project DualPlay. This isn’t just another gaming laptop; it’s a concept that Acer promises will revolutionize how gamers play on the go. But let’s be real, the design raises a few eyebrows about who exactly this is meant for.
So, what makes Project DualPlay so special? Imagine this: Acer took their already impressive Predator gaming laptop and threw in a bit of innovation magic. They’ve added a funky cutout right beneath the keyboard specifically designed to hold a custom gaming controller. The controller sits face-down, but here’s the twist—the back of it acts as the laptop’s trackpad. Want to play? Just press a button on the keyboard, and the controller pops out. Oh, and those two 5W speakers on the sides? They pop out too, just to make sure you get the full gaming experience.
But wait, it gets better. This controller isn’t a one-piece wonder. It can be split into two separate gamepads, Switch-style, making it easy for a second person to join in on the fun. Acer specifically mentions games like Street Fighter 6 and first-person shooters as perfect matches for Project DualPlay, although the latter will only work if the game supports split-screen play. Of course, if you’re more of a solo player, you can just use it for single-player adventures too.

The idea of having a built-in controller in your laptop is pretty cool. Plenty of PC games support controllers, and many gamers prefer them over the traditional mouse and keyboard setup. So, having a controller that’s integrated into your laptop could be a game-changer, literally. No more lugging around extra gear—just pop it out and get playing.
Right now, Project DualPlay is just a concept, so it’s unclear how much it will actually cost if it ever makes it to production.
