IFA 2024 is here, bringing with it a mix of futuristic tech concepts and solid product updates. Among the brands making noise this year, Acer stands out, especially with its gaming lineup. While the spotlight might be on Acer’s first-ever gaming handheld, they’re also giving their popular Nitro V series a nice refresh. Meet the upgraded Nitro V 16 and a new sibling, the Nitro V 14. Both come with some interesting twists, and yes, a lot depends on your preference for screen size—or maybe your loyalty to Intel versus AMD.
Acer Nitro V 16
Acer’s updated Nitro V 16 (model ANV16-71) sees Intel stepping into the spotlight. The previous model packed AMD heat, but this refresh maxes out with an Intel Core i7-14650HX CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. Not a bad setup for those looking to push gaming and creative workloads. For the multitaskers and media hoarders out there, Acer has loaded this machine with up to 32GB of RAM and a hefty 2TB SSD.
If you’re all about visuals, you’ll be glad to know there’s an option for a 16-inch display featuring a 180Hz 16:10 WQXGA panel (that’s 2,500 x 1,600 resolution, in case you’re counting pixels). A refresh rate that high means you’re in for some seriously smooth gaming, whether you’re racking up wins in a battle royale or rendering a high-frame-rate video.
Acer is also making sure the Nitro V 16 doesn’t overheat. They’ve integrated a dual-fan, quad-intake, quad-exhaust system, which draws air in from the top of the keyboard and pushes the heat out through the rear and side vents. The goal? To keep performance consistent and avoid the dreaded thermal throttling. There’s also a MUX switch, letting you toggle between integrated and discrete GPUs, perfect for when you need that extra boost of graphics power.
Acer Nitro V 14
If a 16-inch display seems too much to lug around, Acer’s new Nitro V 14 (model ANV14-61) might catch your eye. This smaller sibling sports an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor as its top-end option. Like the bigger model, it doesn’t skimp on graphics either. You can equip it with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, and it offers up to 32GB of DDR5 memory and the same 2TB SSD. So, despite its compact size, it’s no lightweight when it comes to performance.

The display options for the Nitro V 14 are also no joke. You can go for either a WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) or a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) panel, both running at 120Hz with a 3ms response time. Whether you’re gaming, editing, or binging Netflix, the colors should look great thanks to 100% sRGB color gamut support. And yes, you get the MUX switch here too, for when you want to tap into that extra GPU muscle.
Style-wise, the Nitro V 14 flaunts a sleek pearl white chassis. It’s a nice touch for those who want their gaming rig to look as good as it performs.
Both laptops support NVIDIA’s ray-tracing and DLSS 3.5 tech, which is a major plus for gamers who want their graphics to be as sharp and lifelike as possible. Like most new Windows laptops, Acer’s Nitro V models also have a dedicated button for Microsoft’s Copilot assistant, which promises to make your productivity smoother. There are a few other AI tricks built in, like noise reduction tech for when you’re using the triple microphone array, but nothing too out of the ordinary for 2024 standards.
So, when can you get your hands on these new Nitro V laptops? The Nitro V 14 is set to hit the United States shelves this September, starting at $1,099.99. If you’re eyeing the larger Nitro V 16, you’ll have to wait until October, starting at $1,299.99.
