Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold could be the first IP68-rated foldable

A new leak suggests the Pixel 10 Pro Fold could debut as the most durable foldable yet, featuring a dust-tight hinge and upgraded specs.

Google’s long-anticipated Pixel 10 Pro Fold may mark a watershed moment for foldables—finally delivering on the promise of a device you can carry everywhere without worrying about grit or grime finding its way into the hinge. According to a fresh leak from Android Headlines, Google’s next foldable flagship is tipped to carry an IP68 rating, making it fully dust‑tight and capable of surviving continuous immersion in water—features unheard of in a mainstream foldable to date.

Foldable phones have come a long way since the Galaxy Fold’s creaky first outing in 2019, but there’s always been one nagging question: how do you keep the innards clean when the device literally bends open and closed hundreds of times a day? Dust particles in the hinge can accelerate wear, introduce display artifacts, and even jam the mechanism. With IP48-rated rivals like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 and Motorola’s Razr Ultra, users get decent water resistance—enough to shrug off a rain shower—but only protection against objects 1mm or larger when it comes to solid ingress. By hitting IP68, Google would deliver both best‑in‑class water resistance (continuous submersion up to 1.5m) and total dust exclusion—a major reassurance for everyday carry in backpacks, pockets, or outdoor scenarios.

The rumor mill points to more than just ruggedization. Android Headlines also reports a subtly redesigned hinge that minimizes the gap between the cover display and chassis. The result? A larger 6.4‑inch outer AMOLED panel—up from 6.3 inches on last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold—with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, making it one of the sunniest small displays on the market. That extra 0.1 inch may sound trivial, but in foldables it’s the difference between feeling cramped and getting a satisfyingly edge‑to‑edge view in apps, maps, and notifications.

Performance aficionados will be pleased by Google’s latest 3nm Tensor G5 chipset paired with a generous 16GB of RAM—an escalation over most high‑end slabs today. On storage, leaks suggest three tiers: 256GB, 512GB, and a new 1TB option for power users who see foldables as their one‑device‑to‑rule‑them‑all setup. And thanks to a 7 percent increase in battery capacity—tipped at around 5,015mAh—Google is promising longer runtimes than the 4,460mAh cell in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, plus 23W wired and 15W wireless (Qi2) charging.

Interestingly, Google appears to be opting for continuity over upheaval in its imaging department. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to retain the same quad‑camera array: a 48MP primary, a 10.5MP ultrawide, a 10.8MP 5× telephoto, and dual 10MP selfie shooters for both outer and inner displays. Given how strong the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s low‑light and computational processing already are, Google may be banking on its software prowess rather than a hardware revolution here.

If Google’s leak holds true, an IP68‑rated foldable could reshape expectations. Outdoor enthusiasts, commuters, parents, even the perpetually bottom‑of‑pocket–dwellers will sleep easier knowing their device isn’t a dust magnet. More importantly, it signals that Google believes in the longevity of the hinge mechanism itself—investing in seals robust enough to endure daily folding, rain or shine. In a segment where durability anxieties still linger, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold may well set the new benchmark.

As always, treat leaks with a grain of salt. But with the clock ticking toward August, it’s looking more and more like Google is serious about building a foldable that’s not just compelling on specs sheets, but bulletproof—literally. Keep your umbrellas at the ready.
