Minecraft has joined the ranks of modern games offering an in-game camera: the Vibrant Memories add-on, now available for free on the Bedrock Edition Marketplace. This marks a notable moment for a game that has, for over a decade, prioritized simplicity and player-driven creativity over flashy presentation tools. With Vibrant Memories, Mojang and Oreville Studios invite players to capture and curate their adventures in a more intentional way, blending the familiar blocky aesthetic with features akin to photo modes in blockbuster titles.

Photo modes have become almost ubiquitous in open-world and narrative-driven titles: think of the sweeping vistas in Horizon Zero Dawn or the cinematic frames of Ghost of Tsushima. These modes let players pause, adjust camera angles, tweak lighting, and often apply filters to immortalize their in-game achievements or simply to compose an artistic shot. While Minecraft’s aesthetic is minimalist by design, the desire to document vast builds, stunning landscapes, or memorable multiplayer moments is universal. Vibrant Memories answers this demand by providing a pared-back but powerful toolset that aligns with Minecraft’s ethos of player-led creativity.

At its core, Vibrant Memories introduces a virtual camera that players can wield directly in their Bedrock worlds. The add-on offers key features:

  • Angle saving: Once you find a perfect vantage point—be it overlooking a mountain temple or a redstone contraption—you can save that camera angle for later use. This is handy for “before-and-after” montages of builds or revisiting scenic spots without readjusting from scratch.
  • Player visibility toggle: Want to be in the shot? You can choose to include your avatar in the frame. Or, if you lost a tense battle and prefer not to memorialize the moment, you can exclude yourself entirely.
  • Time and weather control: Minecraft worlds follow natural cycles, but Vibrant Memories lets you override them. Switch between sunrise, sunset, day, or night, and toggle rain on or off to get the mood just right—whether it’s a sun-drenched farmland or a moody storm-battered castle.
  • Multiple cameras and albums (as noted in community guides): Players may place and manage multiple camera objects, switch seamlessly between them, and even build in-game albums with accompanying music to relive past sessions. This turns photo-taking into an experience in itself rather than a fleeting click.

Installing Vibrant Memories is straightforward on Bedrock Edition:

  1. Claim the add-on: Head to the in-game Marketplace, search for “Vibrant Memories,” and click the free button. Ensure you’re logged into your Microsoft account so the pack binds to your profile.
  2. Download and activate: Once claimed, download the pack on your device. It will appear among your installed add-ons; activate it when creating a new world or add it to an existing world (though a fresh world can help avoid conflicts with other behavior/resource packs).
  3. Accessing the camera: Upon entering the world, you’ll receive a guidebook or settings gear in your inventory that explains camera placement, usage, and controls. Typically, you place camera items in the world, position them, save angles, and toggle your visibility or environment settings via an intuitive interface.
  4. Sharing snapshots: After capturing images, you can export them to your device’s screenshot folder or share via platform-specific sharing tools. Players often compile albums or post standout shots on social media and community forums to celebrate builds or scenic vistas.

Vibrant Memories is currently exclusive to Minecraft Bedrock Edition, meaning players on consoles, Windows 10/11, mobile, and other Bedrock platforms can access it. Java Edition does not yet support this add-on architecture in the same way, so Java players won’t see an equivalent built-in camera feature at this time. This reflects how Bedrock’s behavior/resource pack system allows add-ons like Vibrant Memories to integrate more seamlessly; implementing similar functionality on Java could require mods or opt-in tools outside the scope of the official Marketplace.
