Sony’s back at it again, proving you don’t need to drop a fortune to get solid wireless earbuds. The tech giant just unveiled the WF-C710N, the latest successor to its budget-friendly WF-C700N earbuds from 2023. Let’s be real—Sony still hasn’t cracked the code on giving these things a catchy name, but what they lack in memorable branding, they’re making up for with some meaningful upgrades. Better noise cancellation, longer battery life, and a handful of premium features borrowed from their pricier siblings? Oh, and the kicker: they’re sticking to the same wallet-friendly $119.99 price tag. You can preorder them now on Amazon, Best Buy, or Sony’s official site.

Noise cancellation that might actually work this time

If you’ve ever tried the WF-C700N, you probably noticed the active noise cancellation (ANC) wasn’t exactly its strong suit. It could hush the low rumble of a bus engine or an air conditioner, but anything beyond that—like chatty coworkers or a screaming toddler—pretty much broke through. Sony’s heard the feedback and claims the WF-C710N steps things up. They’ve added dual microphones to beef up both the ANC and ambient sound mode, which lets you hear the world around you when you want to.

Now, don’t get too excited just yet—there’s no sign of the fancy dedicated ANC processors you’d find in Sony’s high-end models like the WF-1000XM5. Those are still reserved for the big spenders. Still, dual mics sound like a promising step up for a pair of buds in this price range. If they can block out a bit more of life’s chaos without breaking the bank, that’s a win in my book.

Battery life that keeps up with your day

Battery life was another sore spot for the WF-C700N. With ANC on, you’d get a respectable-but-not-amazing 7.5 hours from the buds themselves, and the charging case stretched that to 15 hours total—meaning it could only muster one full recharge before needing a plug itself. The WF-C710N, though? Sony’s bumped those numbers up. You’re now looking at 8.5 hours from the buds with ANC active, and the case pushes the total to 30 hours. Turn off ANC, and you’re golden for up to 40 hours of tunes. That’s the kind of stamina that’ll get you through a week of commutes or a marathon binge-watch session without scrambling for a charger.

And if you’re the type who forgets to charge until the last second, the quick-charge feature’s gotten a glow-up too. The old model needed 10 minutes in the case for an hour of playback; the WF-C710N cuts that to just five minutes. Pop them in while you’re brushing your teeth, and you’re set for your morning podcast. It’s a small tweak, but those extra five minutes can feel like a lifeline when you’re rushing out the door.

Premium vibes on a budget

Here’s where things get fun. Sony’s decided to sprinkle some of the premium magic from its fancier earbuds into the WF-C710N. Ever yanked out an earbud mid-song and wished your music would just pause itself? Now it will. A new sensor detects when you remove the buds and pauses playback automatically—pretty slick for a pair under $120.

They’ve also ditched the physical buttons from the last model in favor of touch sensors. Tap to play, pause, skip tracks, answer calls, tweak the volume, or even fire up your go-to music app. You can customize what those taps do through Sony’s mobile app, which is a nice touch. It’s a step up from fumbling with buttons, though it might take a minute to get the hang of if you’re not used to touch controls.

Other perks? The WF-C710N are IPX4 water-resistant, so they’ll shrug off sweat or a splash of rain—just don’t take them swimming. They can also pair with two Bluetooth devices at once, making it easy to hop between your phone and laptop without the usual connection dance. For anyone juggling work calls and Spotify, that’s a quiet game-changer.

A look that pops

Sound’s only half the story—how your earbuds look matters too, right? The WF-C710N comes in the classics: black, white, and pink. But Sony’s thrown in a new transparent blue option (called “glass blue”) that’s got a cool, futuristic vibe. It’s not just about aesthetics either; seeing a bit of the tech inside makes these feel like more than just another pair of budget buds. If you’re the type who likes your gear to stand out, that blue might just seal the deal.

  • Sony WF-C710N Truly Wireless Noise-Canceling Earbuds in Pink.

The Sony WF-C710N aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel—or the earbud, for that matter. They’re a practical evolution of a solid budget option, packing in better ANC, longer battery life, and a few premium perks without jacking up the price. Are they going to rival the soundstage of Sony’s flagship models or Apple’s AirPods Pro 2? Probably not. But they don’t have to. For $120, they’re shaping up to be a compelling pick for anyone who wants decent noise cancellation and reliable performance without emptying their savings.

Preorders are live—might be worth snagging that transparent blue pair before they’re gone.
