Xiaomi is turning heads yet again with its upcoming flagship—the Xiaomi 15 Ultra—which appears to be more than just another smartphone. The latest leaks, including official-looking renders shared by Android Headlines, show a device that boldly embraces its Leica heritage, not just in its camera lenses but in its overall design philosophy.

At first glance, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra looks like it could belong in a photographer’s arsenal rather than just a pocketful of tech. The phone features a striking rear design with duo-tone white and rough-finished black vertical stripes, reminiscent of Leica’s classic aesthetics. When held sideways, the large, round camera module—with the Xiaomi logo tucked in the corner—evokes the feel of a traditional Leica camera. Recent images circulating on the Chinese social media platform Weibo even show a hand gripping the phone like a vintage camera, complete with a finger poised where you’d expect a shutter button (though the current renders don’t reveal an actual button).

If the design isn’t enough to pique your interest, wait until you hear about the camera setup. Xiaomi’s new flagship is rumored to house a next-generation camera system that might include a 200-megapixel periscope sensor—a feature that could redefine what we expect from mobile photography. According to GSMArena, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun recently teased a sample photo captured with this innovative system, setting off excitement among photography enthusiasts around the globe.

The leaked spec sheet from Android Headlines outlines a robust camera array:

  • Periscope camera: 200-megapixel sensor with 4.3x optical zoom (rumored).
  • Primary shooter: A 50-megapixel sensor with optical stabilization.
  • Ultrawide lens: Another 50-megapixel sensor, perfect for expansive landscapes.
  • 3x optical zoom camera: Yet another 50-megapixel sensor, also optically stabilized.
  • Front-facing camera: A 32-megapixel shooter for high-quality selfies and video calls.

These ambitious specifications suggest that Xiaomi is not only paying homage to Leica’s storied past but is also pushing the boundaries of what smartphone cameras can achieve.

Beyond photography, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra promises to be a powerhouse in every sense. Under the hood, it’s expected to feature:

  • Processor: The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
  • Memory & storage: 16GB of RAM paired with either 512GB or 1TB of internal storage, depending on the model and region.
  • Battery & charging: A 5,410mAh battery supporting 90W wired HyperCharge, 80W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.
  • Display: A 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED screen boasting a 3200×1440 resolution with a variable refresh rate that can scale from 1Hz to 120Hz, alongside an in-display fingerprint sensor.

These high-end specs indicate that Xiaomi isn’t cutting corners—whether you’re a tech enthusiast, a power user, or someone who loves to capture life’s moments, this device is designed to deliver a premium experience.

Xiaomi’s flirtation with Leica-inspired designs isn’t new. Previous models, like the concept 12S Ultra (featuring a full-size Leica lens) and the 13 Ultra with its dedicated camera grip kit, have already set the stage for this latest evolution. With the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, it seems the company is taking that partnership to a whole new level, blending aesthetic homage with groundbreaking camera technology.

Lei Jun has confirmed that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will make its debut at the end of February, sharing the stage with the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra car in a dual launch that underscores the brand’s multifaceted approach to innovation. This simultaneous rollout hints at Xiaomi’s broader ambitions—not just in mobile technology, but across different sectors where design and performance intersect.
