The image shows two Motorola smartphones, likely the 2025 Moto G Power models, placed on a textured surface. One phone is dark gray, and the other is green. Both phones have a triple camera setup on the back, with the Motorola logo centered below the cameras. To the left of the phones, there is a stack of books with colorful covers, including blue, green, and purple. In the top right corner, there is a wooden tray with a small plant on it. The image is well-lit and showcases the sleek design and color options of the smartphones.

Motorola kicked off 2025 with a bang by revamping its Moto G line, showcasing new iterations of the Moto G and the Moto G Power. The Moto G Power, in particular, has caught the eye of tech enthusiasts and budget-conscious consumers alike for its unprecedented combination of durability and affordability. Priced at just $299.99, this device brings features typically reserved for more expensive flagship models into the budget sphere.

The standout feature of the 2025 Moto G Power is undoubtedly its IP69 water-resistance rating. This rating not only covers submersion (IP68) but also protects against high-pressure water jets and steam, offering a level of ruggedness previously seen only on specialized, often bulkier phones. The OnePlus 13, which recently introduced this rating to the U.S. market, comes with a hefty price tag of $899, making Motorola’s offering incredibly competitive.

Beyond just water resistance, the Moto G Power has been tested under the MIL-STD-810H standard, a certification that ensures it can handle severe environmental conditions. Motorola boasts that this phone can withstand drops from nearly four feet, endure temperatures ranging from -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and cope with up to 95% humidity. While most users won’t subject their phones to such extremes, this resilience adds an extra layer of confidence for those who lead an active or accident-prone lifestyle.

Despite its robust design, the Moto G Power doesn’t compromise on aesthetics or functionality. It maintains a slim profile at under 9mm, featuring a large 6.8-inch LCD display protected by Gorilla Glass 5. This makes it comparable in size to the likes of Samsung‘s Galaxy S24 Ultra. The phone is powered by a hefty 5,000mAh battery, complemented by wireless charging capabilities, which is somewhat of a luxury at this price point. Additionally, the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a nod to users who still value wired audio solutions, a feature becoming rarer in modern smartphones.

Alongside the Moto G Power, Motorola introduced the Moto G for $199.99. This model, while slightly smaller with a 6.7-inch screen, offers less in terms of durability with an IP52 rating and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. However, both models share the same MediaTek chipset and boast a 50-megapixel main camera, suggesting that performance in everyday tasks should be quite similar across the board.

One area where Motorola has historically faced criticism is software bloatware. The 2024 Moto G Power was notably marred by this issue. For 2025, the hope is that Motorola has streamlined the software experience, providing a cleaner, more user-friendly interface without the unnecessary pre-installed apps that can slow down a device or clutter the user experience.

Both the Moto G and Moto G Power will be available unlocked from major retailers such as Motorola.com, Amazon, and Best Buy. The Moto G will hit the shelves starting January 30th, followed by the Moto G Power on February 6th. Availability through major carriers is expected to follow, ensuring these devices reach a broad audience.
