It’s like waiting for buses; you wait forever for one, then three come at once. ASUS, Samsung, and MSI have just announced their latest marvels: the world’s first 27-inch 4K OLED monitors with a 240Hz refresh rate. This trio marks a significant step forward, bringing the high-resolution, high-refresh rate experience to a more compact size without sacrificing the benefits that OLED technology offers.

All these monitors are leveraging the fourth-generation QD-OLED panel from Samsung Display, which promises enhancements over previous OLED generations. According to ASUS, this new panel boasts a “longer lifespan over previous-gen OLEDs,” hinting at improved longevity and reliability for gamers who might be wary of the traditional burn-in risks associated with OLED screens.

  • Resolution: 4K (3840 x 2160).
  • Refresh rate: 240Hz.
  • Response time: 0.03ms GTG.
  • Connectivity: Features DisplayPort 2.1a with UHBR20, supporting a full 80Gbps bandwidth, ensuring uncompressed 4K visuals at 240Hz. It also includes HDMI 2.1 and USB-C with 90W Power Delivery.
  • HDR: Supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
  • Additional features: Comes with the ASUS OLED Care Pro suite, including a Neo Proximity Sensor to prevent burn-in and a three-year warranty with burn-in protection.

MSI MPG 272URX QD-OLED

  • Resolution: 4K (3840 x 2160).
  • Refresh rate: 240Hz.
  • Response time: 0.03ms GTG.

  • Warranty: MSI matches ASUS with a three-year warranty including burn-in protection.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF)

  • Display: Advertised as a 27-inch monitor.
  • Resolution: 4K (3840 x 2160).
  • Refresh rate: 240Hz.
  • Response time: 0.03ms GTG.
  • HDR: While not explicitly stated, it’s expected to support at least DisplayHDR True Black 400, given the industry standard for such displays.
  • Connectivity: Specifics on connectivity like DisplayPort 2.1a support are not confirmed, but it’s logical to expect similar capabilities given the shared panel technology.

The choice between these monitors might not just come down to specs, as all three offer essentially the same core features – stunning visuals with vibrant colors, deep blacks, and virtually no motion blur thanks to the OLED’s speed. Instead, decisions might hinge on design aesthetics, additional proprietary features, and ultimately, pricing, which none of the manufacturers have disclosed yet.

Each brand has its own flair; ASUS with its gaming-centric ROG line, MSI with its MPG branding aimed at gamers, and Samsung with its Odyssey series known for premium quality and design.

While Samsung hasn’t detailed the specifics like warranty or complete connectivity, the anticipation around these monitors is palpable. They represent the next frontier for gamers looking to upgrade their setups, offering the holy grail of display technology in a more desk-friendly form factor.

There has not been any announcement regarding the pricing or release date yet.
