Samsung is reportedly setting the stage to unveil the Galaxy S25 Slim, a device poised to challenge the norms of design and functionality in the mobile market. Expected to hit the shelves in the first half of 2025, this new addition to the Galaxy lineup might just redefine what we’ve come to expect from non-folding smartphones in terms of slimness.

Until recently, specifics regarding the dimensions of the Galaxy S25 Slim remained under wraps. However, thanks to the renowned leaker Ice Universe, we now have a glimpse into what could be one of the slimmest non-folding phones Samsung has ever produced. According to Ice Universe’s post on Weibo, the Galaxy S25 Slim’s thickness is anticipated to be somewhere in the range of “6.x mm”, suggesting a device that could measure between 6mm and 6.9mm.

To put this into perspective, the current champion for thinness in Samsung’s non-folding lineup is the Galaxy S24, with a thickness of 7.6mm, matching its predecessors, the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus. If the Galaxy S25 Slim indeed comes in at a maximum of 6.9mm, it would be a significant leap in terms of slimness, potentially setting a new benchmark for Samsung’s non-foldable phones.

The race for the thinnest smartphone isn’t just internal to Samsung. Apple, with its rumored iPhone 17 Air, is also in the fray, aiming for a device that’s said to be 6mm or even slimmer, which would be a considerable reduction from the current iPhone 16‘s 7.8mm profile. This competition underscores a broader industry trend where thinner designs are not only about aesthetics but also about pushing the limits of what’s technically feasible without compromising on performance or battery life.

When considering foldable phones, the landscape changes. The Honor Magic V3, for instance, is currently the world’s thinnest phone when open, at just 4.4mm, although it’s 9.2mm when closed. Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold6, while thicker at 12.1mm when closed, narrows down to 5.6mm when unfolded, showcasing the unique challenge and innovation in foldable design.

Despite the anticipation, the Galaxy S25 Slim isn’t slated for a simultaneous launch with the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, expected in January. Instead, whispers in the tech community suggest a spring launch, possibly around April 2025, giving Samsung room to perfect its ultra-slim design without the rush of the mainline release.
