In the world of smart gadgets, where battery life often dictates how often you interact with your devices, Elevation Lab has introduced an innovation that might just change the game for Apple AirTag users. Meet the TimeCapsule, a new protective case that not only guards your AirTag against the elements but also extends its battery life to an impressive decade.

The TimeCapsule is essentially a candy bar-sized case designed to house an Apple AirTag, transforming it into a much more robust tracking device. Priced at $19.99 for a single unit, $29.99 for a duo, and a discounted $39.99 for a four-pack, it’s accessible for those looking to invest in longevity without breaking the bank.

This case is made from “fiber reinforced polycarbonate,” ensuring that it doesn’t interfere with the Bluetooth or ultra-wideband (UWB) signals that AirTags use to communicate with nearby devices. Casey Hopkins from Elevation Lab emphasized the durability of the material, which is crucial for maintaining the functionality of the AirTag inside.

What sets the TimeCapsule apart is its IP69 rating, which is the highest level of protection against water, dust, and dirt. This means your AirTag can survive not just a splash or a dusty shelf but can even handle being submerged in water under pressure. The case’s design ensures that your tracker remains operational even in the harshest environments, from the bottom of a backpack in a rainstorm to the dusty corners of a garage.

A black Elevation Lab TimeCapsule Apple AirTag 10-year battery case is shown lying on a wet surface with water droplets on and around it. The case is rectangular with rounded edges and has four screws, one at each corner. The brand name "ELEVATION LAB" is visible on the case. The wet surface and water droplets highlight the case's durability and water resistance.

The TimeCapsule replaces the standard CR2032 coin cell battery of an AirTag with a system that uses two AA batteries. This switch is what allows for a significant leap in battery longevity. Elevation Lab suggests using Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries, which are known for their long life and resistance to leakage or corrosion, a common issue with cheaper alkaline batteries. While nickel-metal hydride batteries can also be used, they won’t offer the same ten-year promise due to their need for periodic recharging.

No innovation comes without its compromises. The TimeCapsule adds considerable weight to the AirTag, increasing from a mere 0.39 ounces to 3.5 ounces with batteries. This might not be ideal for every scenario, particularly if you’re used to the lightweight nature of the original AirTag. Additionally, the case slightly muffles the sound of the AirTag’s alert chirps, which could make locating it by sound alone a bit more challenging.

For those who find themselves frequently losing or misplacing items, or for those who place trackers in locations where they’re hard to reach, the TimeCapsule offers peace of mind. You won’t have to worry about battery replacements for a decade, making it perfect for items that are stored away for long periods or in tough conditions.

A black bag with multiple compartments is shown. In the left compartment, there is an Elevation Lab TimeCapsule Apple AirTag 10-year battery case. The middle compartment holds an orange "FIELD NOTES" notebook. The right compartment contains a coiled black cable. The bag has a small logo of a winged creature on the left side.

The TimeCapsule by Elevation Lab represents a significant leap for AirTag users looking for durability and longevity. While it adds bulk and slightly reduces the audibility of alerts, the benefits of a long-lasting battery and robust protection could make it an essential accessory for anyone serious about keeping tabs on their belongings in all sorts of conditions. Whether it’s for a tool chest in a workshop, a pet’s collar, or gear for outdoor adventures, the TimeCapsule could be the upgrade your AirTag needs to keep up with your lifestyle.
