McLaren is preparing to retire one of its most important modern supercars. The British automaker has confirmed that production of the McLaren 750S will end in 2027, with final orders now being accepted as the company prepares for a new chapter in its road-car lineup.
The decision marks the end of a supercar lineage that began with the McLaren 720S in 2017. Introduced in 2023, the 750S took the 720S formula further with additional power, reduced weight, revised engineering, and a more driver-focused cabin. Its departure will close out a decade-long chapter for McLaren’s mid-engined V8 supercars.
The 750S brings a decade of V8 supercars to a close
The McLaren 750S arrived as an evolution of the 720S rather than an entirely new model. McLaren says around 30% of its components were new or revised, bringing improvements to performance, weight, technology, and the driving experience.
At the heart of the car is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 750 PS (740 horsepower). The powertrain sends its output to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering the kind of performance expected from a modern McLaren supercar.
The 750S also emphasizes lightweight construction. McLaren quotes a dry weight of just 1,277 kilograms (2,815 pounds), although actual vehicle weight varies with equipment and configuration. The combination of a powerful V8 and a relatively light chassis has helped the car maintain the performance-focused character established by the 720S.
The lineup includes both coupe and Spider convertible versions, giving buyers a choice between a traditional fixed-roof supercar and open-top driving.
McLaren’s Special Operations division has also played a significant role in the platform’s later years. Its bespoke commissions have included the 750S with the 3-7-59 Theme and Project Viva, showcasing how the car can serve as a starting point for highly personalized builds.
The platform has also spawned more specialized derivatives, including the track-focused 765LT and the limited-production 788HS. McLaren plans to produce just 200 examples of the 788HS through an exclusive commissioning program.
Final orders are now being accepted
Although the 750S is approaching the end of its production run, buyers still have an opportunity to order one. McLaren confirmed on October 9 that final orders are now being taken, although the company has not specified an exact production end date in 2027.
Customers can continue to work with McLaren Special Operations to personalize their cars, subject to the company’s available customization options and order arrangements. However, anyone hoping to secure a new 750S should contact an authorized McLaren retailer to confirm the remaining order opportunities and delivery timelines.
McLaren has not announced a direct successor to the 750S as part of this confirmation. Reports have pointed to a future mid-engined supercar with a hybrid powertrain, but the specifications and launch timing of any replacement remain unconfirmed.
For now, the 750S represents the final chapter of a supercar family that helped define McLaren’s modern road-car identity. Its retirement also gives the automaker an opportunity to rethink what its next generation of high-performance cars will look like, even as enthusiasts prepare to say goodbye to its twin-turbocharged V8 formula.
