If your weekend gaming plans are currently looking suspiciously empty, Xbox has just dropped a pretty tempting excuse to stay home. Five Ubisoft games are free to play this weekend through Xbox Free Play Days, including Far Cry 6, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones, and The Crew Motorfest.
The promotion runs from Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4, and there’s an important detail here: you don’t need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, or Essential subscription to take part. Xbox says the five games are available for all Xbox members to try during the event.
That makes this a particularly good weekend for sampling a few big Ubisoft releases without immediately reaching for your wallet.
Five games, five very different ways to waste your weekend
First up is Far Cry 6, Ubisoft’s open-world first-person shooter set on the fictional Caribbean island of Yara. You play Dani Rojas, a guerrilla fighting against the regime of dictator Antón Castillo. The game mixes open-world exploration with gunfights, improvised weapons, vehicles, and a rather enthusiastic collection of animal companions.
If you somehow missed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, this is also a great opportunity to jump into Ancient Greece. The action RPG lets you play as a Spartan mercenary and explore a huge open world while getting caught up in the conflict between Athens and Sparta. Xbox highlights its large-scale battles, including clashes involving 150 soldiers on each side.
Then there’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which takes things in a much more blue direction. Set on Pandora’s Western Frontier, the open-world action game lets you experience the world as a Na’vi and explore its landscapes while reconnecting with your heritage and working alongside other clans to protect Pandora.
If giant spaceships and open-world exploration aren’t quite your thing, Skull and Bones lets you become a pirate instead. The multiplayer-focused pirate adventure is currently in its third year of post-launch content, with Xbox specifically pointing players toward Year 3 Season 2, Crimson Waters. That update introduces the new Junk ship, the Abyssal Fleet and Abyssal Envoy challenges, plus progression features including Modification Transfer and Mastery Loadouts.
And finally, there’s The Crew Motorfest, which is probably the easiest choice if you just want to drive around somewhere beautiful without worrying about saving the world. Set across the Hawaiian archipelago, the open-world racer features more than 800 vehicles and lets you race, explore, and generally cruise around the island.
You can keep playing if you decide to buy
The free access ends Sunday, but Xbox is also offering limited-time discounts on several of the games. The current listed prices include Far Cry 6 for $8.99, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for $11.99, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora for $16.49, and The Crew Motorfest for $47.99. Discounts and availability can vary by title and region.
Xbox also says you can keep your Gamerscore and achievements earned during the Free Play Days event if you purchase the game afterward. So you don’t have to worry about your weekend progress disappearing into the digital void just because Monday arrived.
To get started, Xbox says you can find the individual game pages on Xbox.com and install the games through the Microsoft Store. On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, you can also find the Free Play Days collection under the Subscriptions section of the Xbox Store.
The promotion runs only through Sunday, October 4, so you’ve got a limited window to decide whether you’re spending the weekend in Yara, Ancient Greece, Pandora, the high seas, or Hawaii.
And honestly, five Ubisoft games in one weekend is probably enough to make Monday feel like it arrived about three hours too early.
