Adobe is pushing its creative tools deeper into the AI chatbot world, and this time it is bringing Photoshop, Lightroom, Express and Firefly to Google Gemini while making its Claude integration considerably more capable.

The company announced the changes on September 24, introducing “Adobe in Gemini” and a significantly expanded Adobe for Claude plugin. The goal is pretty straightforward: let people get more creative and document work done without constantly bouncing between an AI chatbot and separate Adobe apps.

Adobe tools are now available inside Gemini

The biggest new addition is Adobe in Gemini. Adobe says users can now call on tools from Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Express and Firefly directly through a conversation with Gemini.

Instead of opening Photoshop for one task, Express for another and Firefly for something else, users can describe the result they want in Gemini, with Adobe handling the appropriate tools and workflow behind the scenes.

That could be particularly useful for people working with product photography and marketing content. For example, users can upload product photos and ask Adobe to improve lighting and color, apply consistent crops and prepare a polished set of images for a storefront, website or marketing campaign.

Adobe in Gemini can also turn an existing design into versions suitable for social media while maintaining the original branding and messaging. Users can additionally describe a campaign and target audience, after which Adobe Express designs can be surfaced and customized with different text, imagery and colors.

And yes, this is available across all Gemini plans as the rollout begins globally. Adobe says users can enable it through Gemini’s Personal Intelligence settings by selecting Adobe under Connected Apps and signing into an Adobe account.

Claude is getting Acrobat and actual editing controls

Claude is getting a different kind of upgrade.

Adobe’s existing Claude integration already brought creative tools from Photoshop, Illustrator, Firefly, Express, Premiere, Lightroom, InDesign and Adobe Stock into Claude. The company is now adding Acrobat tools to the same plugin, creating a single Adobe integration with more than 80 pro-grade tools.

That means Claude users can now work with PDFs without leaving the conversation. Adobe says the Acrobat tools can delete, combine or split pages, redact sensitive information and convert or export PDFs to other formats.

But the more interesting addition is the new interactive PDF editor.

Rather than simply asking Claude to perform an operation and waiting for the result, users can open a PDF in the editor and directly reorder pages, edit text or add comments and highlights. Adobe is also introducing a Document Review skill that lets Claude analyze a document and add recommendations and notations directly in the editor.

Adobe Express is getting a similar hands-on treatment.

Claude can already help create and modify Express designs conversationally, but the new layer-based editor lets users select individual elements and change them independently. Images, copy, colors and fonts can all be adjusted without regenerating the entire design.

That’s a meaningful shift in how these integrations work. AI can handle the initial creation, but users don’t have to accept whatever the model spits out as the final version. They can jump into the design and make the small, annoyingly specific changes that AI-generated designs often need.

Adobe is turning chatbots into creative workspaces

The broader strategy here is becoming pretty obvious.

Adobe isn’t simply trying to make its individual apps available through chatbots. It’s trying to make the chatbot itself another place where creative work can happen.

That distinction matters. A traditional AI integration might generate an image and then send you off to Photoshop for the serious work. Adobe’s latest approach increasingly keeps the workflow inside the conversation, with the AI handling multi-step tasks while giving users direct control when they need it.

Claude now combines Adobe’s creative and Acrobat capabilities in one plugin, while Gemini gets its first access to Adobe’s professional creative tools. Adobe says users can still move into its full desktop applications when they need deeper control and precision.

And Adobe clearly isn’t stopping here. The company describes the Gemini launch as the first step in its work with Google, suggesting that more creative and productivity tools could eventually make their way into the chatbot.

Adobe in Gemini is rolling out globally, while Adobe for Claude is rolling out across Claude and Claude Code on the web, desktop and mobile. Existing users of Adobe’s previous Claude connector will have it automatically updated to the new plugin.

For Adobe, this is another step toward meeting users wherever their work starts. And increasingly, that starting point isn’t an Adobe app at all. It’s a chat box.
