Amazon rolls out nationwide grocery discounts for all US employees

Amazon employees are getting a new perk aimed at one of the expenses they deal with every week: groceries.

Amazon is giving its U.S. employees a new reason to use the company for something much less glamorous than buying gadgets: groceries.

Starting October 1, 2026, every Amazon employee in the U.S. will have access to a new Employee Grocery Discount, giving them 10% off eligible grocery and everyday essential purchases online and 20% off eligible purchases made in Whole Foods Market and Daily Shop stores. The benefit applies company-wide, meaning employees can qualify whether they work in a fulfillment center, a Whole Foods Market location, a corporate office, or elsewhere within Amazon.

The new discount is also notably broad. Amazon says employees won’t face a minimum purchase requirement or a cap on how much they can save. The benefit is available from the first day of employment and applies to purchases made through the employee’s Amazon account.

On Amazon.com, employees will receive 10% off eligible fresh groceries, pantry staples and everyday essentials sold and shipped by Amazon. Whole Foods Market’s online grocery service also offers a 10% discount on eligible items, including catering orders.

The biggest discount comes from shopping in person. Employees will receive 20% off purchases across Whole Foods Market and Daily Shop stores, including items from the hot and salad bars. Gift cards and alcohol are excluded from the in-store discount.

Amazon says the benefit can also be combined with other savings. That includes Prime discounts, coupons, Lightning Deals and Subscribe & Save. So, for example, an eligible grocery item that already has a Prime discount can receive the employee discount on top of the reduced price.

And despite the name “Grocery Discount,” the benefit isn’t limited to food. Amazon says eligible purchases can include diapers, baby formula, cleaning supplies, pet food and toiletries alongside traditional groceries such as produce, dairy, meat and pantry staples.

Amazon is expanding its grocery business at the same time

The employee benefit arrives as Amazon continues to build out its grocery operation across the U.S.

Amazon says customers can now shop nearly 3 million grocery and everyday essential products on Amazon.com, while Whole Foods Market operates more than 550 stores. The company is also expanding its smaller Daily Shop format, which is designed around quick, everyday grocery trips.

Amazon has been pushing further into same-day grocery delivery, too. Fresh groceries are now available through Amazon’s same-day delivery network in more than 2,300 U.S. cities and towns, giving customers access to products such as produce, dairy and other perishables alongside the company’s broader selection of household essentials.

That makes the new employee discount useful beyond a traditional weekly grocery run. Amazon’s examples include everything from ordering diapers through same-day delivery to grabbing dinner from the Whole Foods hot bar after work.

For Amazon, the move also connects an employee benefit directly to an area of the business that has become increasingly important to the company. Rather than limiting the discount to Whole Foods employees, Amazon is extending it across its entire U.S. workforce.

The result is a fairly straightforward benefit: starting October 1, Amazon employees can save 10% on eligible groceries and everyday essentials online, or 20% when shopping in Whole Foods Market and Daily Shop stores, with no spending minimum or annual savings cap.

And considering how often people have to buy groceries, Amazon is betting that a discount on the boring stuff might end up being one of its more useful employee perks.
