If Silo has become one of those shows that leaves you with more questions than answers, here’s a pretty good excuse to go back to the source material. Hugh Howey’s complete Silo collection is currently just $2.99, giving you all three novels plus bonus material for less than the price of a coffee.

The collection, officially titled The Silo Series Collection: Wool, Shift, Dust, and Silo Stories, brings together Wool, Shift, and Dust, along with original essays and the bonus Silo Stories chapbook. Apple Books currently lists the collection for $2.99, down from its regular $21.99 price.

The same $2.99 price is also available through Google Play Books. Google’s listing shows the collection reduced from $21.99 to $2.99 and identifies it as a 1,712-page ebook.

Barnes & Noble is offering the same collection for $2.99 as an ebook through its NOOK platform, down from $21.99. The retailer lists the paperback separately at $60, so make sure you’re selecting the ebook edition if you shop there.

At this price, you’re getting quite a lot of Silo.

The collection starts with Wool, the book that introduced Howey’s underground world and the mystery surrounding the silos. Humanity’s survivors live beneath the surface in a massive structure where rules aren’t merely suggestions. One of the most important rules is that nobody is supposed to talk about going outside.

Then there’s Shift, which moves the story into the history of the silos and the events that led to their creation. Dust brings the larger story toward its conclusion, while Silo Stories adds extra material to the world.

The Apple Books description puts the total collection at 1,712 pages, although the page count can vary slightly between digital platforms and reading systems.

For fans of Apple TV’s Silo, there’s an obvious reason this particular deal is worth considering. The television series is based on Howey’s books, but the show and novels aren’t interchangeable experiences. Reading the books gives you the complete story rather than waiting for the adaptation to gradually work its way through the material.

Apple’s own listing describes the collection as the basis for Silo, while Google Play notes that the first two seasons of the Apple TV series are based on Wool, the first book in the trilogy.

And that’s probably the biggest appeal of this deal. If you’ve already spent time inside the silo on Apple TV, you can now read the entire story for just $2.99 rather than buying the three novels separately. Google Play, for example, currently lists Wool and Shift individually at $2.99 each, while the complete collection is also $2.99.

In other words, the bundle is currently a much better proposition than picking up the books one at a time.

The discount is also showing up across multiple digital bookstores rather than being limited to a single retailer. A previous deal listing for the collection documented the same $2.99 promotion across Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Google Play and other ebook stores, and the current retailer pages confirm that the $2.99 price remains live at Apple, Google and Barnes & Noble.

If you’ve been meaning to find out what really happened to the world outside those silos — or simply want to get ahead of the Apple TV adaptation — this is a remarkably inexpensive way to do it.

At $2.99 for the complete collection, there’s not much downside. Just remember that you’re buying the digital edition; the physical boxed set is a completely different proposition and costs considerably more. Barnes & Noble, for example, currently lists the paperback at $60 alongside the $2.99 ebook.

For Silo fans, though, the math is pretty simple: three novels, bonus stories and more than 1,700 digital pages for three bucks.

That’s a lot of time underground.
