Logitech is giving developers a new physical shortcut to the increasingly complicated world of AI-assisted coding. The company has launched the MX Keypad, a compact programmable macro pad designed to put AI agents, coding commands, app controls, and custom workflows under your fingertips.

Priced at $99.99, the MX Keypad is available starting September 8 in Graphite and Pale Grey in select markets. Logitech positions it as an “AI control center” for developers who regularly jump between multiple coding tools and AI agents.

A macro pad built around AI coding

At its core, the MX Keypad is a small keypad with nine customizable full-color LCD keys. Each key can display its assigned action and be configured to trigger commands, macros, applications, or AI workflows.

That makes it somewhat different from a conventional macro pad. Rather than simply assigning keyboard shortcuts to a handful of buttons, Logitech wants the MX Keypad to act as a physical dashboard for the tools developers increasingly use throughout the day.

The company says the keypad can execute prompt macros, refactor code, launch commands, and interact with AI agents across services including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, VS Code, and IntelliJ IDEA.

It also isn’t limited to coding. Logitech says the keys can control apps such as Slack, Figma, Zoom, Spotify, and Adobe Creative Cloud, with the keypad automatically adapting its controls depending on the active application.

That app-aware behavior is arguably one of the more interesting parts of the device. Instead of dedicating nine buttons permanently to nine shortcuts, the MX Keypad can change what those buttons do as you move between applications.

GitHub Copilot gets special treatment

Logitech developed the MX Keypad in collaboration with GitHub, and the integration is particularly focused on GitHub Copilot and VS Code.

The company says the keypad will launch with native GitHub integration, while every MX Keypad includes three free months of GitHub Copilot Pro+. The offer can be redeemed through Logi Options+ and is available to both new and existing users.

That makes the device a particularly direct attempt to turn AI coding from something you access through menus and keyboard shortcuts into something you can trigger with a dedicated physical control.

Logitech isn’t stopping with its own integrations, either. The company has opened the device to developers through its Logi Actions SDK, allowing them to build custom plugins and integrations. Logitech says community-built plugins are already available for Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, including features such as agent status tracking and command-line controls.

The SDK supports custom development using JavaScript or C#, while Logitech’s AI-friendly documentation is designed to make it easier for coding agents to help developers create integrations.

Small enough to sit beside your keyboard

The MX Keypad is designed as a companion device rather than a replacement for a keyboard. It measures roughly 91.7 × 77.9 × 25.5mm and weighs 96 grams, with a USB-C connection and a 1.5-meter cable. It supports Windows 10 or later and macOS 13 or later through Logitech’s Logi Options+ software.

The wired design also keeps things relatively straightforward: plug it in, configure the keys, and leave it beside your main keyboard.

There is a sustainability angle, too. Logitech says the Graphite version uses 64% certified post-consumer recycled plastic, while the Pale Grey model uses 49%. The packaging uses paper from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources.

At $99.99, the MX Keypad also sits well below Logitech’s $199.99 MX Creative Console, which combines a keypad with a separate dialpad aimed primarily at creative applications. The new device strips the concept down to the programmable keypad and puts developers and AI workflows at the center of the experience.

For developers who already have a keyboard full of shortcuts, the MX Keypad may look like an unnecessary collection of nine extra buttons. But as AI coding tools become more deeply integrated into everyday development—and developers find themselves juggling agents, terminals, IDEs, prompts, and repositories—the idea of having a dedicated physical control surface starts to make a little more sense.
