The image shows the Google Chrome logo centered against a light blue background with a subtle wavy pattern. The Chrome logo features its distinctive circular design with four colored sections: red at the top, yellow on the right, green on the left, and a blue circle in the center. The background has a soft, flowing water-like texture that gives the image a serene, ethereal quality.

We live in an age where our eyes are constantly glued to screens. Between work emails, long-form articles, and endless social feeds, digital fatigue is a very real part of daily life. That is precisely why audio has made such a massive comeback. People are hungry for ways to consume information on the go—washing dishes, going for a run, or commuting—without having to stare down a glowing rectangle.

Google clearly noticed this shift and built a feature into its browser called Use Listen to this page mode in Chrome to make text-heavy content entirely hands-free. Designed specifically for Android users, this tool transforms standard web pages into spoken audio, bridging the gap between reading and listening in a remarkably seamless way.

Getting started with the feature is surprisingly straightforward, though it does depend a bit on what kind of listening experience you are looking for. Google offers two distinct flavors here: Standard playback and AI playback. If you just want a reliable, word-for-word reading of an article, Standard playback has you covered. It reads straight through the text and supports an impressive array of languages, from English and Spanish to Hindi, Japanese, and Arabic.

To fire it up, all you need to do is open Chrome on your Android device, navigate to the article or website you want to consume, tap the three-dot menu at the top right, and select the listen option. A playback bar will pop up at the bottom of your screen, giving you full control to pause, rewind, fast-forward, or even lock your phone and keep listening while walking down the street. You can easily tweak the playback speed if you prefer a brisk pace, switch up the voice to something more pleasing to your ear, or toggle text highlighting and auto-scrolling on and off so your eyes can follow along if they happen to be free.

What really makes the feature stand out, however, is its AI playback mode. Instead of a monotone robot reading every single sentence verbatim, the AI mode leans into modern conversational tech by generating a dynamic, podcast-like discussion based on the page’s content. It turns dry reports or long essays into a back-and-forth exchange, making dense subject matter feel far more digestible and engaging. There is a slight catch—you will need your Chrome browser language set to English, and you must have the browser setting turned on to make searches and browsing better—but the payoff is a much more entertaining listening session.

Ultimately, tools like this highlight how our relationship with the web is evolving. We are no longer chained to our seats to absorb information. Whether you are multitasking around the house or giving your eyes a much-needed break from the screen, turning a web page into your own personal podcast is a neat trick that quickly becomes second nature.
