Google just dropped some exciting news for UK folks who love their AI assistants getting smarter by the day. Starting today, April 29, 2026, Gemini is rolling out its “Memories” feature right here in the UK, letting the AI actually remember stuff from your past chats to make responses feel way more personal and spot-on. No more repeating yourself every time – it’s like giving Gemini a brain that evolves with you, pulling from those comic book deep dives or BookTok recs you’ve shared before.

Imagine this: you’ve geeked out with Gemini before about your favorite superhero’s power-ups, and now when you say “brainstorm a birthday party theme for me,” it doesn’t spit out generic balloons and cake. Instead, it cooks up a full-blown bash with character-themed snacks, a photo booth loaded with props from your fave universe, and even playlist ideas tied to the lore. Or say you’re into non-fiction from BookTok – next time you ask for reads, it’ll suggest titles matching those vibes you’ve chatted about, complete with quote snippets perfect for your Instagram captions. And if you’re dreaming up YouTube content on Japanese culture, Gemini might hit you with “My First Time Trying…” video ideas featuring ramen challenges or origami tutorials, all based on what it knows you dig.

This isn’t just a UK exclusive drop, though – it’s Google’s way of making Gemini feel like that one friend who’s always paying attention. The feature kicks off today but will hit all UK users over the next few weeks, and it’s switched on by default for that seamless helpfulness. But hey, you’re in the driver’s seat: hop into the Gemini app settings, tap “Personal context” then “Memory,” and toggle it off if you want, or delete specific chats anytime via Gemini Apps Activity. Privacy’s front and center, as always with Google.

But wait, Google didn’t stop at homegrown memories – they’re making it super easy to switch from rivals like ChatGPT or Claude without losing your vibe. New “switching tools” let you import key preferences, relationships, and even full chat histories straight into Gemini. Just copy a prompt from Gemini’s settings, paste it into your old AI to generate a summary of your deets (like your sibling’s name or where you grew up), then paste that back – boom, Gemini’s caught up in seconds. Or upload a ZIP of your entire chat log to search and continue old threads right there.

These imports are rolling out over the next couple weeks too, exclusively for personal Google accounts (sorry, work or school ones). It’s Google’s cheeky nudge to poach users from the competition – why restart from zero when you can bring your AI “baggage” along? Early reports from March showed this launching globally minus Europe and the UK initially, but now the Memories core is live here, closing that gap.

This push comes amid fierce AI battles, where personalization is the secret sauce. ChatGPT added memory last year, Anthropic’s Claude followed suit, and now Gemini’s not just catching up – it’s adding import superpowers to make jumping ship painless. For UK users, it’s timely too, as broader “Personal Intelligence” (pulling from your Gmail, Photos, YouTube) expands worldwide but skips the UK and EEA for now due to regs. Still, this Memories rollout feels like a win for everyday Brits brainstorming parties, books, or content without the frustration.
