Samsung Wallet just got a whole lot handier for Galaxy users tired of fumbling with physical keys—imagine tapping your phone to unlock your front door like it’s a hotel room or your car. Announced on March 2, 2026, the new Digital Home Key feature brings secure home access right into the Samsung Wallet app, expanding from its car key capabilities to make your Galaxy smartphone a true all-in-one entry pass. Built on the freshly minted Aliro standard from the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA)—which dropped Aliro 1.0 just days earlier on February 26—this is Samsung’s first big play in turning phones into universal smart lock openers, with Apple and Google reportedly eyeing the same tech down the line.

Setting it up is pretty straightforward if you’re already in the Samsung ecosystem. First, pair a compatible smart door lock through the SmartThings app using the Matter standard, which keeps everything playing nice across brands. During onboarding, you add the Digital Home Key straight to your Wallet—no extra apps needed. Then, unlock with a quick NFC tap on the lock (works on most recent Galaxies), go hands-free via ultra-wideband (UWB) proximity as you approach (rolling out April 2026 on select devices), or even remotely through the app if you’re running late.

Samsung’s teaming up with some solid names to make this real: Aqara (their U400 lock is Aliro-ready and already does Apple’s Home Key), Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings (aka Ultraloq). These locks are hitting the market on their own timelines starting March 2026, so availability varies by region and model—check the brands’ sites for your area. It’s not everywhere yet; the rollout kicked off in select spots this month, with wider expansion tied to partner launches, but if you’re in a supported market like parts of the US or Europe, you might see it soon.

Security is where Samsung flexes hard, as you’d expect. Keys live securely on-device, protected by Knox platform with EAL6+ certification—that’s enterprise-grade stuff against hacks and side-channel attacks. Lose your phone? Zap access remotely via Samsung Find, or lock it with biometrics/PIN right in Wallet. No more panicking about handing over spares or getting locked out.

This feels like the next logical step in Samsung’s Wallet evolution, which already handles cars from Toyota, Porsche, Mercedes, Volvo, and Audi. For smart home fans, it’s a game-changer—ditching bulky keychains for seamless Galaxy integration, all while pushing industry standards forward. If you’ve got a Matter-compatible lock from those partners, keep an eye on SmartThings updates; your door might soon open with a wave (or tap). Excited to see how fast Aqara and crew roll out support—could make Galaxy the go-to for connected living.
