Pebble’s Round 2 is a deliberate reboot of the brand’s most stylish watch: a thin, bezel-free 1.3‑inch color e‑paper smartwatch that prioritizes battery life and simplicity over fitness features, available for pre‑order at $199 with shipping expected in May 2026.

When Pebble first launched the Time Round in 2015, it won fans for being the thinnest smartwatch on the market, even as compromises—small screen, short battery life—tempered its appeal. The new Pebble Round 2 aims to resolve those tradeoffs with a larger, bezel‑free 1.3‑inch color e‑paper display and a battery that the company says can last up to two weeks between charges. The watch is being released by Core Devices, the company founded by original Pebble creator Eric Migicovsky, which has been reviving the brand and its open‑source PebbleOS lineage.

Round 2 keeps the aesthetic that made the original memorable: a skinny stainless steel frame offered in matte black, brushed silver, and rose gold, and quick‑release bands in 14mm and 20mm sizes depending on the colorway. The display’s 260×260 e‑paper panel promises the always‑on clarity of e‑ink while sipping power, and the watch remains remarkably thin at around 8mm—a nod to the original’s fashion‑first intent.

Core Devices is positioning the Round 2 as a minimalist smartwatch rather than a sports tracker. It offers basic health and activity tracking—steps and sleep—alongside accelerometer and magnetometer sensors, but it omits a heart‑rate monitor, signaling a conscious choice to avoid the fitness‑watch arms race. The watch supports voice features via dual microphones and retains physical controls with multiple buttons for quick access.

Pre‑orders opened in early January 2026 with a $199 price tag and shipping slated for May 2026—a competitive position that undercuts many full‑feature smartwatches while promising longer battery life thanks to e‑paper technology.

Risks and limitations

  • Feature tradeoffs: no heart‑rate sensor means no continuous health metrics or advanced workout tracking; buyers seeking a Garmin or Apple Watch alternative will be disappointed.
  • Platform parity: some features, like message replies, are Android‑first with iOS support rolling out later in certain regions.
  • App ecosystem: while Pebble’s community remains active, the breadth and modernity of apps will be a factor for power users.

The Pebble Round 2 is a stylistic and philosophical reboot: it doubles down on what made the original distinctive—thinness, design, and battery life—while accepting limits in sensor and fitness capability. For anyone who wants a fashionable, low‑maintenance smartwatch that lasts days rather than hours, the Round 2 is a compelling option; for fitness obsessives or those who need the deepest smartphone integration, it’s a deliberate compromise.
